Recovery Support Groups
Recovery Support Groups
Millions of people around the world are in active recovery and find their help by participating in their respective support groups. These mutual support groups (often referred to as addiction support or self-help groups) are an important part of recovery. They help you to build a practice of sharing, along with the understanding that you never have to be alone again.
Research shows addiction support groups can lower relapse rates. They’re also extremely helpful in providing people with nurturing, compassionate assurance that they are not facing the battle of addiction alone. Support groups exist for people with a substance use disorder and for their families or significant others. Please note that while groups are not a substitute for treatment, they can be a great source of support for a lifetime of recovery.
Attendance at addiction support meetings is free and open to anyone who has a desire to stop drinking, using drugs, or acting out in ways that are enabling to their loved one’s continued use. Members who attend meetings regularly establish a network of support, a safe place to share experiences, and challenges without being concerned about judgement.
